Armed rebel groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and neighboring countries often exploit the mining and trade of certain metals, leading to severe social and environmental issues, including human rights abuses and armed violence, sparking international controversy.

- Conflict Minerals: Metals originating from conflict zones in the DRC and surrounding areas, including Tantalum (Ta), Tin (Sn), Tungsten (W), Cobalt (Co), and Gold (Au).
- Neighboring Countries: Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
